A Groundbreaking Seminar on
Case Law and the Rule of Law in China
WHITE PLAINS, New York,
March 6, 2007 – The Institute of International Commercial Law of
Pace University School of Law, together with the United Nations
Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the Wuhan Institute
of International Law, and the China Society of Private International
Law will be hosting a comprehensive seminar concerning the
international sale of goods. The seminar on Case Law and the
Rule of Law in China will take place on Saturday and Sunday,
October 13 and 14, 2007 at
Wuhan
University
in the People’s Republic of
China
. The principle goal of this conference is to improve the
familiarity of the international legal community with the rules of law
set forth by the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale
of Goods (CISG) and with the vast amount of experience
China
has acquired in its implementations of the world’s uniform
international sales law.
Prominent members of the bar, the bench and ministries of the
People’s Republic of
China
and of the international commercial law community will attend this
seminar in order to review the uniform international sales law of
China
, the
United States
and 68 of their trading partners. The main speakers at this
event include the leaders in the field of international commercial law
of
China
, UNCITRAL, and the CISG Advisory Council. Some of the speakers
at the conference include world-renowned Eric E. Bergsten, a former
Chief of UNCITRAL, Michael Joachim Bonell, a major contributor to the
CISG, and Jan Ramberg, a global authority on international sales
contracts. This conference springs from Pace’s publication of
translated texts of over 200 Chinese arbitral decisions.
The adoption of the CISG prompted the Institute of International
Commercial Law of Pace University School of Law to create an
award-winning web-based electronic library focusing on international
case law and commercial law. Of the 70 countries that have
adopted the CISG, which account for three-fourths of all world trade,
China
is becoming a world leader in embracing the rule-of-law principles of
this uniform international law comprehensively and energetically.
Seminar attendees will gain valuable knowledge of international
commercial law that will be of considerable help in doing business in
China
and worldwide.
