About the Speaker
Professor Barbara Black
Professor Black teaches in the business law area and is the
director and founder of the Securities Arbitration Clinic, believed
to be the first such clinic in the country. The Clinic
represents small investors in their claims against brokers. Prior to
coming to Pace, Professor Black has been associated with two law
firms — first with Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler in
New York and then with Rogers and Wells in Washington, D.C. She has
written a number of law review articles on securities arbitration,
securities fraud and RICO claims. Her article on Fraud on the
Market has been extensively cited, including by both the
majority and dissenting opinions in the Supreme Court’s opinion on
fraud on the market. She has also written a treatise on corporate
dividends and stock repurchases. She previously served as acting
dean and, prior thereto, vice dean of the Law School and spent two
years as deputy director of the Association of American Law
Schools.
