Synopsis of José E. Alvarez’s
Lecture
Inter-state organizations that aspire to a global
reach - from those of the UN system to the World Trade Organization - are transforming
international law and even the very conception of sovereignty. This lecture will address the changes wrought by the post-WWII turn to
such institutions. It will consider why states form such organizations, as
well as why many increasingly fear them.
