Hannah Berkowitz

Ms. Berkowitz is a partner at Murphy & McGonigle in New York City where she represents financial services companies and their employees in securities, antitrust and commercial litigation and regulatory proceedings, and also advises clients on securities related matters. Prior to joining Murphy & McGonigle, Ms. Berkowitz held senior positions in general counsels’ offices in public companies in the financial services industry. Ms. Berkowitz was Group Executive and Senior Associate General Counsel at Mastercard Worldwide, where she headed up litigation, regulatory and public policy globally. She was a Managing Director and General Counsel Litigation at UBS Financial Services, Inc., supervising in house and outside lawyers involved in a broad range of litigation in the federal and state courts and before arbitrators, and providing advice to senior management. Prior to UBS, she was Deputy General Counsel and Senior Vice President of PaineWebber Incorporated, heading up litigation firmwide for the capital markets, asset management and retail businesses. Ms. Berkowitz was associated with Davis Polk & Wardwell, where she represented domestic and foreign companies in civil and criminal matters. She began her legal career as a law clerk for the late Hon. William C. Conner in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Ms. Berkowitz was a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Chicago School of Law where she taught a securities related seminar. She has been a lecturer at Pace’s Center for Continuing Legal Education and speaks on panels on a variety of topics. She was an officer of the Compliance & Legal Division of the securities trade group (SIFMA, previously the SIA) and a member of the National Arbitration & Mediation Committee of FINRA. She also is a FINRA arbitrator.
