Mr. Berman's legal career began as a U.S. Navy Judge Advocate conducting military trials and prosecuting civilian cases on behalf of the United States Attorney General's Office. He then represented shareholders in the field of class action securities fraud litigation until the Navy recalled him after 9/11. Upon his discharge, Mr. Berman earned a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Missouri–Columbia using the G.I. Bill and went on to a career as a journalist covering business and law before taking a position writing speeches and marketing material for a large international investment firm. Eventually Mr. Berman missed the law and returned to it as an associate handling general litigation—mostly business disputes. He now has his own law office in Manhattan that handles business and commercial law matters.

Mr. Berman graduated magna cum laude (top 5%) from the University of California at San Diego and with honors from the University of San Francisco School of Law. He was a Senior Member of the law review, an Associate Director of the moot court board, and an extern law clerk to the Honorable Charles A. Legge (Ret.), U.S. District Judge, Northern District of California.

Mr. Berman is a member of the New York, Illinois, and California bars.
