Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

LLM students in Gerber Glass Hall

At Haub Law School, we value and celebrate our diverse community as we endeavor to create a more just world.  Located in the greater New York City Metropolitan area, we strive to create a student body, faculty, and staff that reflect the wealth of backgrounds represented throughout this region and beyond. Haub Law is committed to diversity in all its forms – race, gender, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, socioeconomic status, religion, abilities, and more. We actively seek to create a community that is inclusive and welcoming through inclusive policies, practices, and programming.

Today’s student body reflects a diverse community. Approximately 62% of our students are women and 30% of our students are students of color or students who come from underrepresented communities.  Additionally, approximately 86% of our student body has received grants and/or scholarships in the 2019-2020 academic years. Our students represent 23 states and 155 colleges and universities. In the last three years, our JD student body includes students from China, Canada, and Brazil, while our LLM and SJD programs includes students from 14 countries. Also geographically diverse is our alumni population—we currently have alumni living and/or working in all 50 states and in 38 countries.

At Haub Law, we are actively engaged in creating positive change. During the summer of 2020, Haub Law was among the 10 New York City-area law schools who came together to create the Law School Anti-Racism Consortium (LSARC). This coalition of law school faculty, administrators, staff, students and alumni is committed to building an anti-racist culture and climate in law schools. LSARC is actively confronting the extent to which racism impacts legal education and trying to change it. Haub Law is proud to be a part of this change.

We recognize that the entire law school community benefits from an inclusive environment that encourages open and honest discourse on a broad array of topics. We embrace diverse opinions both inside the classroom and out, and expect everyone to be treated with dignity and respect for who they are and for their unique perspectives.  While we value and honor the differences that a diverse community brings with it, we also recognize that we are part of a community with many shared goals and objectives, and perhaps most importantly, we are all part of what Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. described as the “beloved community.”

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values at Haub Law. At Haub Law, we welcome, encourage, and celebrate both our differences and our shared goals and ideals.   In sum, we celebrate the full richness of our humanity.
